6 Proverbs For Strong Faith & Family

#1 Fully Trust – In our productive, scheduled lives, we like to feel we have control of our destiny. We like to think if we carry out certain steps, our plans will be fulfilled. We forget that we don’t always know what is best for us and that the Lord’s ways are greater than ours. If we had a full understanding of this, we would let go of our anxious need to control. Although it may seem difficult at times of uncertainty, fully trust in the Lord, never doubting your security and wellbeing in the hands of your creator who knows and loves you more than anyone.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. ” – Proverbs 3:5-6

#2 Focus on the Lord – It requires great discipline to stay focused in our busy, media-saturated world. Our attention is constantly being pulled in different directions, splicing our time and energy—dividing our focus. Amid the constant distractions, we are called to focus on the Lord, not on our plans or our desires. We are to dwell on the goodness of the Lord. If we focus on His power and faithfulness, our plans seem small. In Matthew, Jesus said if you have faith as small as mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for you. Faith requires focus. The more you focus on your faith, the more fruit you will harvest in your life—peace, joy, and abundance.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3

#3 Build on the Cornerstone– Everything is built from a foundation- your life, career, and family. In Matthew, Jesus likens his followers to a wise man who builds his house on the rock, withstanding storms. Life will always throw unpredictable situations at us and test our integrity. If we are rooted in the light of God’s wisdom, we will rise above our circumstances and grow from them. The cornerstone of God is like the foundation of a skyscraper, strong enough to take us higher and higher as we are filled with the truth and promises of His everlasting love.

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare treasure.” - Proverbs 24:3-4

#4 Disciple to Your Family – Just as Jesus and his disciples taught people the way of the truth and the light, so we are called to disciple to others, especially our family. It is important to teach your children right from wrong. Childhood is a crucial time for character development. Many of the principles instilled in children will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Live by example, just as Jesus did.

“Start children off in the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” - Proverbs 22:6

#5 Speak Only in Love—Relational interactions often become patterns. Be careful to create healthy, nurturing patterns in your family relationships. Find the discipline to hold your tongue to avoid fighting or lashing out. “Speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) in order to have a happy, successful marriage and family.

“Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam. So drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.” - Proverbs 17:14

#6 Full Faith Equals Full Joy – The more you foster your faith in God, the more joy and security you will experience in your life. According to Romans 25:23, you will overflow with hope through faith- “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Be strengthened by the Lord’s unfailing faithfulness and walk in the light of His unending goodness. Your joy found through faith will be infectious to your family and those around you.

"She is clothed in strength, and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." – Proverbs 31:25
