4 Reasons Why Intermittent Fasting Leads to a Better and Healthier You

Uncategorized Feb 05, 2018

Fasting is known for helping us grow in our walk with the Lord. What if fasting could also help with weight loss, genetic repair, or fighting disease? Sound too good to be true? Studies are showing the various benefits that intermittent fasting contributes to our overall well-being.

#1 Losing weight and fat. Intermittent fasting is a period of time in which we consume all of our food within an 8-hour window of our day and not consuming any food during the remaining 16 hours. Sound difficult? Well, it can be challenging at first but once you get over the hump you'll be pleased with the benefits. During this fasting period your body will naturally go into "Survival mode" better known as that "Hangry" stage we know all too well. However, in this phase, the body uses fat and turns it into fatty acids that can be used for energy to make up for any lack of energy you aren't receiving from food. This, along with a lower calorie intake from eating less, is a fairly simple solution to losing weight and fat. So plan your meals into an 8-hour window that works for you and watch the results!

#2 Better your brain. Sure, losing some weight would be great, but a healthier you doesn't stop when the digits on the scale decrease. Intermittent fasting is proven to promote a healthier brain. Think of it in two different phases, the building phase, and the cleansing phase. Food triggers the building phase in which your brain rebuilds new cells and tissue. This phase is key, however, the cleansing phase is where it gets exciting! When you fast for periods greater than 6 hours, the brain recycles any waste material and repairs any waste material. So essentially when you're not eating, the brain is and its sources of food are the unwanted chunk that's not needed. These waste materials are what leads to dementia, Alzheimer's, and other issues which can be prevented by fasting. A healthy brain leads to growth in knowledge and growth in knowledge leads to a better you! Check out this link for more

"My son, do not lose sight of these- keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul" Proverbs 3:21-22

#3 Healthier Heart. A healthy heart is meant for a happy life. Intermittent fasting has shown to improve issues involving blood pressure, cholesterol, inflammation, and sugar levels throughout the body that helps keep the heart in a healthy state.

#4 An ageless you. Intermittent fasting doesn't exactly change your cosmetic appearance, remove wrinkles, or get you looking like your back in your twenty something’s, but wouldn't it be great to feel youthful? This form of fasting has been shown to increase lifespan. It gets much more scientific but to describe it simply, the mitochondria in our cells possess functions that provide our cells with its needed energy. This process slows as we age but the diet restriction that comes with intermittent fasting has shown to keep us in our youthful state! Check out this Harvard study
